This year Ontario's Family Day Holiday falls on Monday February 21, 2011. Approximately  60% of Canadians enjoy a statutory holiday in February on the 3rd Monday, which coincides with the US holiday Presidents Day. While most provinces call this holiday "Family Day" in Manitoba they use the day to celebrate "Louis Riel Day" on Prince Edward Island this day is called "Islander Day”  There will be plenty of ways for Mississauga Kids and families to have fun together.  Click read more for a growing list of events and activities!

The City Of Mississauga will be hosting a variety of activities at city community centres, pools, rinks, and museums.  Some of the activities planned at Mississauga Recreation Centres include Kindergym, Floor Hockey Drop In,  Skating,  Fun Swims,  Crafts, Yoga, Badminton, Bing, Siccer, Basketball and More!  Mississauga Muesums will also be open offering a chance for families to enjoy historic tours and crafts.  These activities can all be enjoyed with a Special $7.00 Family Day Pass.  Some restrictions apply.  Visit The City Of Mississauga Family Day Website for more information.

If the weather is good there are a variety of free outdoor activities available to enjoy on Mississauga.  Some Mississauga neighbourhoods have organized rinks at their local parks managed by volunteers.  There are also 3 Mississauga Outdoor Skating Rinks run by the city.  

There are 3 excellent Mississauga toboggan hills available for families to enjoy.  Brookmede Park on Council Ring Road has a north facing hill that is short but steep.  Birchwood Park on Lakeshore Road is close to the restaurants and coffee shops of Clarkson Village, with a south facing hill that is long and gently slopping.  Erindale Park on Dudas also has a long hill with a gentle slope but faces the north.  After sledding at Erindale park stop in to Sherwood Forest Village to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate at one for the restaurants or coffee shops.

Bring your children and enjoy an indoor program of making bird treats together. Then go outside to hang the treats on the trees along the trail (or take them home with you). The Riverwood Conservatory chickadees are both friendly and hungry. Perhaps they will feed from YOUR hand! Afterwards, go back inside and warm up with hot chocolate. Bring the family and enjoy winter at Riverwood! The FREE fun begins at MacEwan Field Station. Pre-registration is encouraged (to ensure adequate supplies) but drop-ins are welcome. This program runs on Family Day Weekend on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, February 19, 20 and 21, 2011 from 9:30 to 11:00 am.

Creative Kids Place will be open on Family Day. Drop in with the kids and they can choose between stuffing a cuddly teddy bear, painting a ceramic piece, painting a t-shirt, making a bracelet or assembling and painting a wood kit. We also have crafts for little toddlers also. Our activities are geared for kids between the ages of 2 and 13. Some Mississauga Indoor Playgrounds will be open on Family Day.  Taima Zone is open for Family Day Fun, Admission is $5.00 per child ages 2-14 years. Under 2 years play free with a paying sibling or $4.00 per child with out sibling.  Please be sure to call ahead to check your favorite indoor play place hours of operation.  Not every playground is open!

Older kids might enjoy visiting Playdium where they can experience the ultimate interactive adventure.
